Candidate qualifications :
John Yeo was elected in Prince County, Prince Edward Island, in 1891. When the riding was divided in two single member districts for the 1896 election, East Prince and West Prince, he ran in both, winning East Prince.
Note :
The political affiliation of John Yeo in 2nd Prince in the 1873 general election is not certain. He was first elected to the House of Assembly as a Conservative in 1858 but was leader of the provincial Liberals in the 1880s and a federal Liberal in the 1890s. He was appointed to the Island’s Executive Council in 1870 by Conservative Premier James C. Pope, so it seems likely that he was still a Conservative in 1873. He was elected in 1876 under the Free School banner (for information on the Free School Coalition, see note in “1876 General Election”), which may signal the beginning of his transition to the Liberals. John was acclaimed in 2nd Prince in 1873, along with his elder brother, James (Liberal).(See Minding the House, sub. “Yeo, Honourable John”)
