John J Henderson

Henderson, John Johnson – Age 83 of Willow Lodge Home for Special Care, Tatamagouche and formerly of River John, passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2016 in Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital, Tatamagouche. Born January 13, 1933 in Hodson, Pictou Co., he was the son of the late John A. and Pearl R. (Johnson) Henderson. John was an educator for thirty-three years having taught at River John High School, Pictou Academy, East Pictou High School where he was Principal, then Pugwash High School from where he retired in 1986. He was very interested in politics which brought him to serve as County Councilor for fourteen years. He was a member of St. George’s Presbyterian Church, River John and a past member of the Chignecto School Board, the Aberdeen Hospital Board of Directors and the River John Lions Club. He was instrumental in organizing the River John Bicentennial celebrations which continues annually as Festival Days. Surviving are his wife, the former Margaret Parker; his children, Dale (Cynthia), River John, Carol Ann, Shubenacadie, Sheila (Richard Melanson), Meteghan and Kenneth, River John; grandchildren, Colin, Martin, Sherri, Matthew, Gwendolyn, Thomas, Nicholas and Justin; 8 great grandchildren; brother, Harvey, Toney River; sister, Effie Paul, Nepean, Ontario. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sister, Vivian Smith and brother, Anderson “Andy”.
