Additional information for Coalition

Note : Following the 1941 election, the Liberal and Conservative parties formed a coalition government (Coalition or sometimes Wartime Coalition), in part in response to the growing success of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF), later to become the New Democratic Party.

Liberal and Conservative candidates ran under the Coalition banner in 1945 and 1949, forming the government following those elections. Despite the shared electoral banner, MLAs were still widely referred to as either Liberal or Conservative.

The Coalition dissolved in 1951 after Liberal party members chose to support a Liberal minority government in the legislature.

The Liberals retained their traditional name, while the Conservatives reformed as the Progressive Conservatives in recognition of that name having been adopted by the national party in 1942.
