Party Founding :
Québec solidaire resulted from the merger of the Union des forces progressistes party and the Option citoyenne political movement. The merger was ratified by members of these organizations in late 2005, and a founding convention held in February of 2006.
Founded in 2002, the Union des forces progressistes party was a merger of the Rassemblement pour une alternative progressiste, the Socialist Democratic Party, and the Communist Party of Québec.
Option citoyenne movement was launched with a predominantly female membership in May 2004. After touring Québec in the summer of 2004, Option citoyenne’s membership mushroomed, and its first Québec-wide meeting was held in November 2004.
Note : Option Nationale merged into the party in 2017.
